The entertainment industry has been heavily affected by the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, and anime is no exception. A state of emergency was declared in Japan on April 16, which was lifted on May 25 after the number of cases in the country fell. Most studios suffered delays in production before and during that time, including TV Tokyo, MediaNet and Toei Animation. Meanwhile, international streaming services and distributors like Crunchyroll, FUNimation and Sentai Filmworks announced delays in the simulcasting and dubbing of licensed anime. Some adjusted to a work-from-home strategy to ensure production continued and broadcasters resorted to replaying older episodes in their stead.
